It was a close call for triple digits on Thursday in Tucson. The top temp recorded at the airport was 99 degrees. That’s the hottest day we’ve seen in Tucson since September 27th, 2018 when we also reached this value.
This is just the beginning of what promises to be the biggest heat wave we’ve seen in almost a year. More on that in a minute.
The irony is that the average high temperature for the city from the dates May 16th – June 5th was 86.3 degrees. Each day during this three week stretch was below average. The average high temperature during this period is 95 degrees and most impressive: it’s the coolest stretch of weather for these dates going all the way back to 1917! 102 years ago.
Temperatures have recently been over-performing forecast highs, and our first 100 degree day may arrive as soon as Friday. In the forecast is 99, for both Friday and Saturday and if the ice doesn’t break on either of these days, it should by Sunday. Sunday’s high temperature is forecast to be at 101 degrees.
Now to the serious stuff: most of next work week will be very hot with temperatures ranging from 103 – 108 for the City of Tucson. So please make sure you have your plan to keep cool during the hottest parts of the day.
